Telesur, the Dutch subsidiary of the incumbent telecom company of Surinam, wants to bring people in The Netherlands and in Surinam closer together.
Surinam is a former Dutch colony. The Surinamese community in The Netherlands is large and highly social. With family and friends living both in The Netherlands and Surinam, Telesur wanted to create a smart mobile solution as a bridge between the two countries.
We developed a smart SIM card that contains two numbers; a Dutch number and a Surinamese number. Customers call at local rates to their family and friends in Surinam, while their familiy in Surinam can call them also at local rates by using the Surinamese number instead of the Dutch number. In addition to these benefits, roaming in Surinam is also at local rates!
“We got into the bleu figures relatively quickly, given that we have only started in November 2008", Telesur's CEO Dirk Currie stated to newspaper de Ware Tijd (dWT). Currie also mentions dat "Telesur Netherlands now represents about 7% of the total parent company's revenue."
